Cumberland County Playhouse

This nationally recognized professional theater features productions ranging from Broadway favorites to original works.  More than 400 performances, concerts and special events are presented annually utilizing professional and community actors.  With two indoor stages the playhouse is open almost year-round.

Homesteads Tower & Museum

The Cumberland Homesteads were built as part of the NEW DEAL...President Franklin Roosevelt's solution to combat the results of the Great Depression.  Visitors can view exhibits including documents, photos and artifacts from the 1930s and 1940s as well as climb the winding staircase to the top of the tower.

 

Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre opened November 21,1938 and played an important part in the lives of many people in the community. The first movie shown here was, "If I were King" with Ronald Coleman and Basil Rathborne.
 
The Palace was used during World War 2 to promote the sale of War Bonds and hold scrap metal drives. The Palace also played host to live entertainment as well, featuring such artist as Kitty Wells, Roy Acuff and the Smoky Mountain Boys, and Bob Steele, a cowboy moviestar. 
 
The Palace closed in May of 1978 and the building began to deteriorate. The efforts of a local group trying to find funds to renovate it led to the Palace being listed in David Naylors book "Great American Movie Theatres" in 1989.   In 1994, the Palace was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. 
 
The Palace is now a multi-use community auditorium, visitors center and still used as a movie theatre, showing classic films.

 

Pioneer Hall Museum

Pioneer Hall was the first dormitory of the Pleasant Hill Academy (1884-1947) and the first building of Cumberland County placed on the National Register of Historic Places and listed with the Tennessee Heritage Trails.  The 10 room Museum represents the early lifestyle of Cumberland County.  Admission Free.  Open Wednesdays (10-4) & Sundays (2-5) May thru October.

 

Simonton Cheese House

2002 marks its 55th year of operation.  This is Tennessee's oldest cheese and gourmet house selling the finest cheeses, hams, candies and other gourmet items.  Closed on major holidays.

 

Stonehaus Winery

Cumberland Counties first licensed winery of the twentieth century.  Produces approximately 200,000 bottles of wine annually.
